In 1977 when The Rare Pair opened it was a locally-owned shop that sold quality shoes. Thirty-three years later, The Rare Pair is still locally-owned and sells shoes as well as clothing and accessories for men and women. But at our core, we are and always be a shoe store.
The Rare Pair has had the pleasure of providing shoes for generations of Northfield residents, visitors from around the world and thousands of college students. Over the years we have heard numerous entertaining and heartwarming stories about our shoes. Not a day goes by without one of our beloved customers stopping in to share a personal story about their shoes and the places they’ve been, and memorable life experiences they’ve had wearing our shoes.
A few years ago, we asked our customers to write an essay about their favorite pair of shoes. The entries we received were so heartwarming (and hilarious) that we decided we’d like to do it again.
The Rare Pair Essay Contest: Every Shoe Has a Story
Tell us a story about a pair of shoes that made a difference in your life. The pair of Birkenstocks you wore backpacking through Europe. The strappy sandals you bought to lift your spirits after a painful break-up. The cowboy boots you got for Christmas when you were eleven years old. The flip flops you bought in Barcelona.
Prizes
1st Prize: FREE Shoes! (value up to $ 150.)
2nd Prize: $ 50.00 Gift Certificate for shoes.
3rd Prize: $ 25.00 Gift Certificate for shoes.
Contest Rules:
1. In order to qualify, all essays should be on the following topic: The story of a pair of shoes that made a difference in my life.
2. The shoes referenced in the essay do not have to have been purchased at The Rare Pair.
3. No purchase is necessary to enter the contest. Contestants are limited to one entry.
4. Entries will be judged on the basis of originality, quality and style. The odds of winning depend on the number and quality of entries submitted.
5. Essays are limited to 400 words or less.
6. Deadline for submission is midnight Monday, November 15, 2010.
7. Entries may be submitted any of the following ways:

- Snail Mail. Essays should be postmarked no later than November 15, 2010.

8. Entries should include the following information:
Name, email address, mailing address and day-time phone number.
9. Winners will be announced on Thursday, November 18, 2010. Winners will be contacted by email and telephone. Winning essays will be posted at the store and on The Rare Pair Website.
10. All entries will become property of The Rare Pair. By entering, all entrants grant, convey and assign to The Rare Pair the exclusive rights, to publish the material in print or other media.
